Say YES to the Fiancé or Fiancée Eligibility Scheme This Valentines Day

Ohmyhome

More love is in the air since Valentine’s Day is around the corner..can you feel it? We can! It’s safe to say getting engaged on 14 February is rather universal and pretty romantic.

So, what are your plans on and after this special day? Perhaps it’s time to start thinking about getting an HDB flat together. You must be wondering, “How?” The eligibility conditions to buy a BTO or resale flat include Fiancé or Fiancée Scheme. This scheme allows you to apply for your first home with your spouse-to-be, presenting an opportunity for lovebirds to start planning ahead.

4 Special conditions for Fiancé or Fiancée Scheme

  • Solemnisation must take place at the Registry of Civil Marriages or Registry of Muslim Marriages within 3 months of collecting your keys to your flat. Getting hitched overseas? Submit a photocopy of your marriage certificate to HDB within 3 months as well.
  • Parent’s consent is a must if you or your partner is 18 to 21 years old.
  • If you or your partner is below the age of 18, a Special Marriage License is required for verification.
  • If either of you are divorcees, certain documents such as the Final Judgment (otherwise referred to as Decree Nisi Absolute), Interim Judgment (or Decree Nisi) and Order of Court are required for verification as well.

Possible housing grants you can qualify for under Fiancé or Fiancée Scheme

Throwing a wedding and planning a honeymoon can cost a bomb, which is why it’s described as a “once in a lifetime” event. Fortunately, CPF Housing Grants are available to cushion our housing spending and make it affordable for first-timers to own an HDB flat. You have a handful of options, they are:

1. Family Grant

Married / engaged couples or families who have a combined average gross monthly household income of no more than $14,000 as a couple. You can receive grants up to $50,000.

2. Enhanced CPF Housing Grant (EHG)

You must first qualify for a Family Grant before applying for the EHG. Married / engaged couples or families average gross monthly household income must not exceed $9,000. You can receive grants up to $80,000.

3. Proximity Housing Grant (PHG)

PHG encourages Singaporeans to live near or with their parents. Your flat must be within 4km of your parents’ home. You can receive grants up to $30,000.

4. Half-housing Grant

This grant is for SC/SC applicants whose spouse/ spouse-to-be had previously received a housing subsidy.

All grants come with specific eligibility criteria, so be sure to find out the one(s) you can secure during your financial planning. Your first home is a huge milestone, you will be coming home to each other pretty soon.
