Old HDB Flats Get Retractable Drying Racks
Around 230,000 flats built between 1987 and 1997 will get new laundry racks that come with six horizontal stainless steel poles which can be extended and retracted within the frame of the rack. Residents would no longer need to carry heavy bamboo poles in and out of the kitchen windows.
Developed by HDB, the rack is designed with elderly residents in mind as it is safer to use. It was first piloted in 2018 at Block 641 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 to test its functionality and robustness, i.e. whether it could withstand Singapore’s weather. The feedback given by residents was that the new rack requires less effort to use.

COVID-19: ERP Rates to Be Cut at 96% of Gantries as Road Traffic Declines
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Tuesday (Mar 31) that Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) rates will be cut at 96% of gantries because of “exceptional circumstances” due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Gantries along expressways and arterial roads will have reductions of up to S$2, some with charges completely removed. There will not be any ERP charges for vehicles entering the Orchard, Bugis-Marina Centre and Shenton Way-Chinatown cordons for all days of the week. This will be implemented from next Monday.
