When people in the Metro think of Rizal, it’s usually Antipolo, Taytay, or Cainta that first come to mind. However, Rodriguez is no slouch either. As one of Rizal’s most important towns, it has consistently ranked among its wealthiest and most populous. The first-class municipality is the largest in all of Rizal, as well.

Much like Antipolo, Taytay, and Cainta, Rodriguez is also a safe and practical alternative to the Metro, especially for prospective property buyers who are looking at the Quezon City area. Rodriguez is only 19.7 kilometers away from the city. It may not be as urbanized as its fellow Rizal gems, but Rodriguez also presents the same key benefits for home seekers who put a premium on affordability, security, and convenience.

Why Rodriguez?

Founded in 1871, Rodriguez is still commonly known by its former official name, Montalban. Montalban comes from the Spanish word “Monte,” meaning “mountain.” This is in reference to the ridges, hills, and mountains that surround the location. The town was officially renamed in 1982, after the great political luminary and former Senate President Eulogio Rodriguez, Sr. Nonetheless, many residents still identify with its old title.

Rodriguez has a strong sense of its cultural identity, too. Bernardo Carpio, a giant in Philippine mythology, was said to have left his footsteps somewhere in the Montalban mountain range, according to local legend. The popular “Patok” jeepneys originated from the town back in the 1980s, as well. Meanwhile, landmarks like Wawa Dam, Puray Falls, and even the Rodriguez Ancestral Mansion have all become attractive tourist destinations.

Moreover, the town has steadily become more urbanized over the years, with its economy mostly relying on agriculture and commerce. But that hasn’t disrupted the area’s quiet, easygoing nature.

It also helps that Rodriguez has a fair share of well-respected medical institutions and schools. These include the likes of St. Mark Hospital and Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial Hospital, as well as the College of Arts & Sciences of Asia & the Pacific – Rodriguez Campus and the Far Eastern University – Roosevelt Rodriguez Campus.

In addition, transportation to and from the Metro isn’t a problem. Rodriguez is just about an hour away from Quezon City with a vehicle. Jeepneys, tricycles, and buses are readily available for the everyday commuter, as well.

Some jeepneys even have routes directly to Marikina and Quezon City. Cubao and PHILCOA, which are only 40 minutes away from Rodriguez, are easily accessible via Marcos Highway and Batasan Road, respectively. Buses, on the other hand, travel regularly to cities like Makati and Parañaque.

Investing in a Home in Rodriguez

If Rodriguez seems like a great location on paper, that’s because it is. Not only are you getting a fresh break from the busy Metro life, you’re also getting a town with its best years ahead of it.

In the Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index 2020 report, Rodriguez placed in the top 20% of 489 first- and second- class municipalities in terms of local economy size and 12th in terms of local economic structure. It also ranks in the bottom half when it comes to the cost of living and the cost of doing business. The town also ranks 28th when talking about its increase in employment.

Suffice to say, these rankings are more than encouraging. If you’re having trouble in your search for a Rodriguez property, might we suggest looking at house and lot packages at Bria Homes Montalban?
