It was only about a year ago when Architect-turned-Influencer Karlo Marko launched “ArkiTALK: An Architecture Talk Series” on the Karlo Marko YouTube channel. Here, he discusses all things architecture, made for “non-architects” or “non-technical people” alike. What started as his personal diary of sorts has now become quite the side gig. Today, his channel has gained 68k subscribers. Some of his videos have even eclipsed 500,000 views. And he’s only getting started.
“It’s a show for those who are in need of information regarding the field of architecture, engineering, design, and construction presented in a way that all people would simply understand,” Karlo says.
For property investors or home seekers who happen to be casual viewers, they are treated to fun, informative content. His videos may have their share of comedy, but his content is something he takes very seriously. Sometimes, he throws in a little history and science in there, too.

Audiences have definitely responded positively to his work, as well. Just use the hashtag #AskArki and he will answer you directly. “If you check the comment section of my videos, I have answered most of the questions there and that’s what pushes me to move forward, ” he adds.
Despite the challenges brought on by the start of the pandemic, Architect Karlo manages to juggle his responsibilities as a design manager and as a real estate content creator very well. He tells Ohmyhome that one of the biggest adjustments he made during quarantine was balancing his focus on his main source of income and his highly successful side project.
He does all this as a one-man team. “I work on everything from the concepts, the video shoot, the video editing, graphics, and everything else,” the architect explains.
By now, Karlo is used to dealing with “everything else.” He has led various residential projects for a long time now. The content creator has dealt with all kinds of contractors and industry professionals in the past. For five years, he was even an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Singapore, handling projects that he remembers fondly.
“The projects I handled there amazed me from the process and the technology to the techniques they applied there. Everything there was fast-paced and organized,” he states. “I hope that our country gets to be in that same level of discipline and commitment one day.”

Does he have a favorite project in mind? Not exactly. The former OFW replies: “With all the projects I’ve worked on, I realized that it’s not the project that counts. It’s the process and the experience you get with every single one of them.”
And we can see all those years of savvy in his content. When he was just getting started, the videos were simply filmed as a video diary, where he records his experiences in designing and building residences. But as his audience grew, he soon learned that people truly liked learning more about his field and homebuilding from the architect’s perspective.
Architect Karlo takes roughly three up to seven days to film and edit his YouTube videos. It depends on if his hectic schedule would allow him, of course. Still, he loves what he does. “As a content creator, I am here to inform, advise, and share my knowledge with the people,” he says. “And hopefully, it helps them pursue their goals in life.”
Many of the architect’s fans are property buyers themselves. He knows that a house is a big investment that homebuyers shouldn’t simply rush into. The architect adds: “A house is an important investment and it should not be taken lightly or “bahala na.”
As his subscriber growth grows, Karlo Marko is always looking for new ways to educate and have fun with property content. He feels that part of the reason why Filipino and foreign viewers love his work is that they’re just as eager to learn about building their dream homes as he is.
This may be why his subscribers keep coming back to his YouTube Channel. Well, or perhaps because of another thing. “I hope it’s because of the information they get from my videos and not from my “hugot” lines,” he concludes.
